ZIFT

ZIFT (Zygote Intra Fallopian Transfer) is another variant of the IVF/ET approach. This method is very similar to GIFT but instead of oocytes and sperm, embryos are transferred into the fallopian tube.

The procedure is done laparoscopically at the hospital under general anesthesia, 48 hours after oocyte retrieval. Embryos continue to divide inside the fallopian tube and they reach the uterine cavity at the blastocyst stage .

Main indications are cervical blockage which precludes embryo transfer, and inability to use GIFT due to defective sperm and need for ICSI.
